Child and Adolescent Orthodontics

Because of natural growth and development, the American Association of Orthodontists recommends children see an orthodontist at age seven. By assessing their teeth at an early age, we can provide optimal care for your children. Many children won’t need braces until most or all of their permanent teeth come in, sometime between the age of 11 and 13.

Children with certain malocclusions will require a first stage of dental orthodontics between 7 and 9 years of age, and then they will need a second stage of orthodontics after their permanent teeth come in. A small percentage of children with severe malocclusions require early treatment and must wear braces until all of their permanent teeth come in. Dr. Tsutsui and his staff offer a comfortable experience for children of any age at Riley Dental Group in San Fernando.

Early treatment can:

  • Move front teeth back, so they will be less susceptible to injury.
  • Improve the relationship of upper and lower jaws, creating an improved environment for tooth development.
  • Improve facial appearance and self-esteem.
  • Reduce the need for further treatment later in a patient’s life.
