Caring for Braces

Tips for Care of Your Braces:

  • Use a soft bristle brush with fluoride toothpaste.
  • Brush after every meal.
  • If you cannot brush after eating, rinse well with water.
  • Every day, brush vigorously and floss until teeth and braces look spotless. This should take no less than five minutes.
  • As a precaution, rinse with an antiseptic mouthwash after brushing.
  • Concentrate on cleaning spaces between braces and gums.

Brushing & Flossing with Braces

  • Brush the entire surface of each tooth thoroughly.
  • Make sure you clean between the braces and gums.
  • Brush your teeth in the direction they grow, meaning the upper teeth down and the lower teeth up.
  • Rinse well after brushing, and look in the mirror for missed areas.
  • Floss carefully around each tooth.
  • Using a floss threader may make flossing easier.
  • Ask us about special brushes for hard-to-clean areas.
